Full-day activities/appointments are currently showing at bottom of day view, and often separate from other activities/appointments, which usually show up at the top of the view..

does this make sense? i have the sort set to "time"

You can go to sort > time and choose 'Unassigned items first'

Hamish unfortunately not! It is still pretty random. But I also use the sorting for other purposes already
